Mikel Obi Launches Football Foundation In Lagos

Nigeria superstar has re-founded his foundation to discover talent across Africa.

Mikel, who currently plays for the Chinese Super League, Tianjin TEDA, held a football clinic with about 150 boys and girls at the Children’s International School in Lekki, Lagos, between 3-15 years.

It was found that the clinic, which took place in Lagos on 25 November, gave the youngsters the opportunity to practice first-hand.

Mikel first established the charity in 2012, and six years later, the foundation reintroduced the charity to discover young sports talents. Children of the Little Tigers Football Club also had the privilege of dealing with the former Chelsea midfielder.

While speaking in the football clinic, Mikel said; “My foundation is concerned with the children, I give the community back to Nigeria, everything has started for me at home and I will always want to return to Nigeria.

“I want to do it right this time. It was there and I think now is the time to come out and get it right.

“This is the time, it’s the right time to do things for kids, and we do not have enough to make sure it’s successful.”

Toll on Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge to become fully electronic — Lagos State Governor Sanwo-Olu

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has disclosed that collection of toll, on the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge will go fully electronic in a few weeks time.

The Governor revealed this on Friday, 6 September, while giving an account of his activities in the first 100 days in office.

The Lagos State Government, posted the video of his statement via their twitter account.

Babajide Sanwo-olu clarified that the purpose of employing the cashless policy on the Lekki-Ikoyi toll bridge is to reduce the traffic caused by queues of motorists seeking to pay the toll fare.

Police arrests 125 Suspected Looters, orders Water-tight Security at Foreign Missions & Businesses in Nigeria

The Inspetor-General of Police, Muhammad Adamu, announced that additional security measures have been approved for foreign missions and businesses across Nigeria.

This action is as a result of violence protests and looting of businesses owned by South Africans in Nigeria. The hoodlums allegedly acted on the widespread outrage expressed by Nigerians over the xenophobic attacks in South Africa in the past week.

Several businesses, assumed to belong to South Africans, were looted or destroyed in Lagos, Ibadan, Uyo and other parts of the country.

The IGP in a statement on Wednesday, also revealed that said 125 suspects were arrested in connection with the violence and looting in Lagos on Tuesday, with some of the stolen goods recovered.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, NPM,mni has ordered water-tight security around embassies, foreign missions, foreigners and their businesses within the country.

This order is against the backdrop of the unfortunate attack on Shoprite outlets in Lekki Area of Lagos State on 03/09/2019 by some miscreants who attacked and looted the Malls ostensibly under the pretext of protesting against the incessant “xenophobic” attacks in South Africa.

To this end, all Zonal Assistant Inspectors General of Police and Commissioners of Police across the Federation have been placed on red alert to ensure no similar violence is replicated within the country.

The IGP condemns the violent attacks and notes that three police officers were seriously injured and a Police operational vehicle set ablaze.

He also notes that a total number of One Hundred and Twenty-Five (125) suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident while a good number of looted valuables have been recovered by the Police.

While recognizing the rights of citizens to air their views on salient national issues as enshrined in our statutes, the Force reiterates that these must be done within the confines of the law.

Miscreants and criminally-minded people who masquerade as genuine protesters are therefore warned to stay-off the streets of Nigeria as the Force will not hesitate to bring to bear the full weight of the law on any such law breaker.

Parents and Guardians are therefore enjoined to prevail on their children and wards to desist from acts capable of causing breakdown of law and order in the country.

Meanwhile, the Force has commenced investigations and profiling of the arrested suspects with a view to establishing their connection with the stealing, malicious damage, arson and disturbance of public peace on the day of the incident. The Force is hereby reassuring all law-abiding citizens, embassies, foreign missions, foreigners and their businesses within the country of their security and safety.

FG advises Nigerians against “travelling to high risk and volatile areas” in South Africa

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised Nigerians against traveling to high risk and volatile areas in South Africa until the current situation of xenophobic attacks is brought under control.

This was contained in a statement issued in Abuja through the ministry’s spokesperson, Ferdinand Nwonye.

The statement read:

The Federal Government of Nigeria totally condemns the renewed attacks on foreign nationals and their businesses in South Africa which has led to the loss of lives and properties worth Millions of Naira.

The Government of Nigeria is engaging the relevant South African authorities via the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria, Consulate General in Johannesburg.

And the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja to ensure that definite measures are put in place to curtail the unfortunate attacks.

The Federal Government commends the arrest of some perpetrators of the dastardly act by the South African Police and call on timely prosecution to serve as deterrence to others.

However, due to the tension created by the attacks, the Government of Nigeria wishes to advice Nigerians to avoid travelling to high risk and volatile areas until the situation is brought under control.

The Ministry of foreign affairs wishes to assure the general public that government is committed in protecting of lives and properties of Nigerians in South Africa.
